Inspiring Curveball in June: Jack is talking sound design and explainer videos.

Inspiring sound design in Scotiabank Mobile Banking explainer video.

Explainers like this are the bread and butter of what we do at Curveball; taking a concept or product and distilling it down to an easy to understand and engaging piece. This animation for Scotiabank does a great job of that. Without any voice over and very little text to explain itself, it lets the colourful visuals and quirky motion to do all the talking.

If you were to watch this without any sound, you’ll find it is quite slow paced. It is enough time to take all the information in, but it does feel very dry without. It goes to show how powerful sound design and music can be for a piece. With the sound back on, the little pops and melodies really brings up the pace and engagement.

Without inspiration, not a lot of creative work would ever be done and, even if it was finished, it wouldn’t be any good. Here at Curveball, we’ve got a whole library of curated work to dip into when our minds run dry. We’ll look at everything from colour themes to sound design,  and every conceivable thing around that. We’ll make it a point to have a think about the target audience and what it does for them. It all helps us move ahead.

With that in mind, we wanted to share some bits each month that have really caught our eye. We’ll be posting a few star examples each month, with everything from explainer videos to short films, and everything in between.
